Piece of paper (122x112mm.) marked “Fugitive Oil Colours”, bearing New South Wales Diadem
lower value type colour guide trials, each with “POSTAGE” and value tablets blank, and with
lower left corner waxed over, eight examples in reddish purple, pale orange, purple-brown
(2), dull vermilion, violet, blue (value tablet cut off) and purple, Diadem 6d. trial proofs (3)
each with a waxed corner, in deep green, dull green (badly cut-into) and vermilion (cut to
shape), and Trinidad 1859 imperf 6d. deep green (cut-into or touched on two sides); the piece
with creases and other faults. A highly important group, particularly bearing the Trinidad 6d.
which is a major rarity in unused condition (catalogued at £12,000 by Stanley Gibbons)
